My new Book
Following the warm reception of my Dutch memoir Loslaten, I am happy to share that the English translation, The Art of Letting Go, is now
available digitally worldwide
A literary memoir by artist Micky Hoogendijk.
From a childhood marked by longing and imagination to years spent between Amsterdam, Japan and Hollywood, from artistic success to personal upheaval, The Art of Letting Go traces the winding path of a woman in constant search of freedom, belonging, and herself.
With striking honesty, Hoogendijk reflects on love and heartbreak, motherhood and ambition, the legacy of childhood trauma, and the moments that forced her to begin again. What emerges is not a story of reinvention alone, but of gradual recognition: that the things we spend a lifetime searching for are often found much closer to home.
Written with the eye of an artist, the memoir moves through love and loss, ambition and reinvention. Along the way, it explores the often-unexpected path between the person we set out to become and the person we discover ourselves to be, and the quiet courage required to keep opening our hearts to life.
Charcoal Sketches
Commissioned Charcoal Sketches — Lines of Connection
Every charcoal sketch is created exclusively on commission and drawn in the spirit of The Ones, my ongoing body of work exploring human connection, vulnerability, and the invisible bonds that unite us.
Rather than selecting an existing artwork, you invite me to commission a unique, original piece inspired by your family, loved ones, or a meaningful relationship. Working from your photographs and the story you share with me, I create a charcoal drawing that captures not simply a likeness, but the essence of your connection through the visual language of The Ones.
These works began as a quiet exploration of what connects us to one another: a gesture, a glance, the space between two people. The subtle moments that often say more than words ever could.
Drawn in charcoal, each piece is reduced to its essence-line, movement, and presence. Like my sculptures, the figures remain deliberately anonymous and timeless, inviting reflection while leaving space for your own story to emerge.
For some, the sketches celebrate family. For others, friendship, love, remembrance, or a defining moment in life. Their simplicity allows each work to become deeply personal while remaining part of the universal language of The Ones.
Every sketch is an original artwork, created only once. No reproductions, editions, or copies are ever made.
The Commission Process
- You share your photographs and the story behind the people or moment you would like to preserve.
- I create an original charcoal sketch, interpreting the emotional connection rather than simply reproducing a photograph.
- Before framing, I will send you an image of the completed artwork for your approval.
- Once approved, the drawing is professionally framed and prepared for secure worldwide delivery.

The One – Cut-Out Edition
From Monumental to Meaningful
For years, The Ones have spoken to people around the world through their quiet yet powerful expression of human connection.
In bronze, they have stood as monuments to togetherness, presence, and belonging. Yet their scale meant that not everyone who connected with them could bring one home.
This piece was created in response to that.
The One – Cut-Out Edition carries the essence of the original sculpture in a more intimate form. Small enough to hold in your hand, yet rooted in the same exploration of connection that defines The Ones.
Its simplicity is intentional. Reduced to its purest shape, it becomes a symbol rather than a representation—an object that invites reflection on the people, memories, and relationships that matter most.
Whether placed on a desk, a bedside table, a shelf, or given as a meaningful gift, it serves as a quiet reminder of connection, presence, and care.
A Small Sculpture with a Lasting Presence
Though modest in scale, the bronze carries a reassuring weight. Many collectors find themselves instinctively picking it up, holding it for a moment, and feeling its grounding presence.
It is an object to live with, not simply to display.
